Doris skirt - full seat adjustment

Doris skirt - full seat adjustment

May 16, 2019 1 Comment

Who knew women have curves? Okay, you can laugh, because that’s like super obvious! Most of us women fall in different pattern sizes for our waist and hips, which means you have to blend between sizes to ensure a great fit.

In most cases when testing the Doris adult skirt, even the testers with more challenging curves, got away with a perfect fitting skirt by following the detailed step-by-step blending instructions. But others ended up with some annoying, but very common fitting issues. In this blogpost we're going to discuss some of these very common fitting issues and it's solution: the full seat adjustment.

Doris skirt tester round up

Doris skirt tester round up

May 06, 2019

Transformative. That is the word that best describes the Doris skirt for adults pattern test. With the help of 43 amazing testers, among which 8 pregnant ladies - we’ve perfected,  adjusted, transformed the Doris skirt pattern to become a versatile, year- round wardrobe staple and must have pattern! Obviously that’s always the goal of a pattern test. But unexpectedly this test also was transformative for (my own personal) body positivity.

Dia Sweater Full Bust Adjustment - Part 1

Dia Sweater Full Bust Adjustment - Part 1

February 07, 2019

Do you often end up with a sewn garment that is too large in the neck and shoulder area, even though you selected the correct size by following the pattern’s size chart, based on your bust measurements? If that’s the case, you might be in need of one of the most common pattern adjustments used to create a better fitting garment - the Full Bust Adjustment (FBA).  Even though behind the scenes we're working very hard to add FBA front bodices (C & D cup) to our Dia sweater pattern, we've also created this extensive step by step tutorial to help you perform your own FBA.

Ever since I started Misusu Patterns, I've been so blessed to have met so many wonderful people from the sewing community. Some of them I'm happy to call friends now. One of those people is Tina and she's been a Misusuperstar from the first hour. Not surprisingly, she's a part of the Misusu Patterns FREEkin' Sewing Challenge inspirator team. And boy, did she inspire! Her hack of the Summer Olli shorts to an Olli skirt got so much love, that I asked her to share her hack in a guest blog post. And here it is!

Doris skirt | How to blend between sizes

Doris skirt | How to blend between sizes

April 05, 2018

All Misusu Patterns are drafted using a standard set of measurements, but most bodies aren't standard at all! In general, most Misusu Patterns have a more relaxed fit where you can get away without blending in width. But during testing the Doris Skirt, the challenge of getting the fit just right became apparent. The base sizes are thoroughly tested and spot on. But because of the many body shapes out there (the difference in the waist and hip width ratio) to achieve a perfect fitted skirt, blending between sizes is highly recommended.

Contrast Neck Tape

Contrast Neck Tape

January 12, 2017 3 Comments

Let’s talk about adding a contrast bias neck tape to a sweater or t-shirt! When I make something as a gift, I can’t help but adding a little something something - a contrast tape, crocheted flower, felt heart -  to the inside of the garment. It’s fun and people will love the extra effort and detail!
